Today I was out and was passed by a man walking along the beach trail at Kelso. As I was dragging the two kids and four hundred bags with the stroller back from the beach to the car after surviving a downpour, the back of his shirt made me stop in my tracks…
I asked if I could take a picture of his shirt… I quickly added that I am always inspired by the quiet of passer-by’s t shirts or bumper stickers, because in these quiet moments, magic happens. This shirt was one of them. I also let him know I was new to running. He stopped and shared with me his story of how he has always run but after getting orthodics to correct an knee injury, severe shin splints turned into a stress fracture on his right shin. Three months he has been off of his running game and he is just now getting back into doing his 5ks through walking.
I had a great workout tonight. Despite a crazy day with the kids and exhaustion, I made it downstairs to our home gym, and gave it my all! And tomorrow, I will stick with my plan and run a 5K and do it in this man’s honour. I will run for him…. because I can!
